Why
is there a
scarcity of English speakers?
Because there is no teaching of English in real sense or
whatever is taught doesn't help students get English which
they can use in their daily life. Teachers teach only or
mainly grammar. So we know grammar but we don't know how
to use English. And this is true of most of the English teachers
and even professors; of course a few honourable exceptions
are always there. in short ... We have no exposure to English.
We don't have the first hand experience of speaking English,
listening to it and reading and writing it. So we are always
deprived of achieving the basic skills of language learning
- Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Conversing.
What
do we do to get English
We only talk about English, we don't know English. Teachers teach English so
much that students get hardly any opportunity to learn it.
Most of us try the materials like books, CDs, guides etc. available in the market.
Many people prefer to go to the English speaking classes. But in spite of doing
all these efforts their wish to learn English doesn't get fulfilled. Because
most of the bazar materials available are nothing but garbage; there is no quality.
People producing teaching materials as well as conducting classes do not have
any training in the teaching of English. Neither do they know English in
real sense. Though there are books from a few Indian English Language Experts,
most of them are with theoretical approach and without bilingual support. Hence
they are hardly useful to learners.
Materials produced by the native speakers don't have Indian students in mind
and again they don't provide any bilingual support. Though the leaning materials
are excellent, they aren't understood by our learners. Apart from this there
is no after sale service or support system available to the learners. So even
though we get the quality materials, they don't help us to get English.
The fact is ... We
don't get English. |
